Founded in North Carolina by lead singer and songwriter Anthony Watkins II and later joined by bassist Tim Shelburne, Mobley settled into it's current formation during the fall of 2009. After a cross-country move and months of preparation, they're hard at work trying to prove themselves as one of Austin's most promising young bands.
The songs draw from a wealth of influences, often tied together with only as much thread as is necessary for coherence. What results is a repertoire that, by virtue of its diversity, truly transports the listener. It's a set composed of contrasting moods and moments: an anthemic blitz of guitars and wired synths; a falsetto croon slinking out over drum-bass groove straight out of '73; a music box lullaby bursting into chamber pop or keening alt-country or glitzy dance-rock. All of these sounds are complemented by a stunning video/light component and performed by musicians that command the stage with a presence that belies their youth and a vigor that proves it.

A few months ago, we played a show at the Spanish Moon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and recorded it for posterity (and promotional value). Here’s a sampling of what was shot that night.
Our latest cd, “Let Slip”, is barely 3 months old and work is already underway for the followup (part II of what will likely be a trilogy). Today, though, I decided to take a little break from recording new material to record an alternate form of one of the “Let Slip” songs to share with you all.
“Taste of Gold” is probably my personal favorite of the songs from that disc, so I played a little stripped-down version (hopefully) for your listening/viewing pleasure. It also gave me a chance to try out my new, old piano. For anyone who care’s about such things, it’s a Yamaha CP-60M (an eloctroacoustic piano from 1984…something like a baby upright crossed with an electric guitar). I spent more than a year trying to get my hands on one when, a few months ago, I came across this one on Craigslist…in Philadelphia. On digital pictures and the word of stranger, I drove up from Austin and got it. I have spent odd hours getting it back in playable condition and it makes its debut on the recording that follows. We’re hoping that this little beast will make its way into the live shows sooner or later, but I’ll have to be content with this for now.
